The Agilent Technologies 8594A spectrum analyzer is a wide band, very sensitive receiver. It works on the principle of "super-heterodyne receiver" to convert higher frequencies (normally ranging up to several 10s of GHz) to measurable quantities. The received frequency spectrum is slowly swept through a range of pre-selected frequencies, converting the selected frequency to a measurable DC level (usually logarithmic scale), and displaying the same on the CRT of the Agilent Technologies 8594A. The CRT displays received signal strength (y-axis) against frequency ( x-axis).

Frequency range: 9 kHz to 2.9 GHz. Span range: 0 Hz (zero span), 10 kHz to 2.9 GHz. Span accuracy: Span <= 10 MHz: ±2% of span, Span> 10 MHz: ±3%. Sweeptime Range: Span = 0 Hz or> 10 kHz: 20 ms to 100 s. Sweeptime Accuracy: 20 ms to 100 s: ±3%. Amplitude range: -112 to +30 dBm. Displayed average noise level: <= -112 to <= -107 dBm. Resolution bandwidth: 1 kHz to 3 MHz, ±20%; 9 kHz and 120 kHz (6 dB). Video bandwidth range: 30 Hz to 1 MHz. Built-in memory card reader.
